Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, probably somewhere between Capernaum, where he lived, and Bethsaida, where Peter and Andrew lived. He would have enjoyed the lapping of the water, the sound of the birds, the warmth of the sun. Yet his focus was on people. Seeing these guys practicing their fishing trade, he looks them in the eye and says, “Come. Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” And immediately these seasoned men dropped their nets and left everything they’d know, and followed him.
At least ten times in the Gospels, Jesus uses this phrase,
“Come. Follow Me.”
And He continues speaking this invitation into our lives today. Into the lives of those who are new to Him, and into the lives of those who’ve been following Him for years.
In a world of voices crying for our attention, devotion, and imitation, Jesus is still calling. He continues issuing His invitation. How will you answer Him today? How will you answer him tomorrow? How will you answer Him each day of your life?
So we share His invitation with you today: Come. Let us follow Him together!
