Why is there a church building and church body worshipping at 1050 Danforth Avenue?
More than a century ago, a group of people started gathering in someone's living room on Queen Street less than 2 kilometers from here. They were praying for more of God, and specifically for more of His Holy Spirit to be in and move through them.
And He answered.
That prayer meeting grew and went on for years in the Hebden's home. It finally ended there after more than a decade, yet a group continued to meet in participants' homes. In 1922, they decided to call a pastor and formally organize as a local church. What informally started over 100 years ago and formally started on September 18, 1922, became what is today Danforth Community Church. In 1947 they started building at 1050 Danforth, moving in and starting worship services in 1948. Today we continue seeking God together, and seeking to be a blessing to all around us in the Danforth, East Toronto and other areas where congregants live.
But what does all this past history mean for us in 2018? Is it all dry, crusty and ready for the dust bin? Or is there new life in the Spirit here and for the coming year. Absolutely, there is! Greater is He who is within us, and He will fulfill his purposes for us.
We invite you, your family and your friends on Sunday at 10:30 am to hear about Leaning In, Reaching Out in 2018.
Actually, come early at 10:00 and join us for coffee, tea and some sweet bite before service, too.
We look forward to worshipping together with you this Sunday.
